SANDALWOOD THE PLANT
Scientific name: Santalum Album.
Description: Small evergreen tree with a height up to 9 m., of the Santalaceae family. Sandalwood bears the fragrant yellowish resin of the tree. Ideally, sandalwood should be over 60 years old.
Origins: East India.
History: From the 5th century BCE, sandalwood was considered as invaluable in the form of wood and essential oil.
SANDALWOOD ”BIOLOGOS” ESSENTIAL OIL
Technique: Extracted from the bark of the tree through steam distillation.
Composition: High concentration (70%) in sesquiterpenes: cadinol, balsamiol and caryophellene, ingredients that ensure the beneficial qualities of this oil.
Scent: Fresh and spicy, oriental and colour light yellow.
Country: India.
QUALITIES
Palliative, relaxing, anti-microbial, antiseptic.
Aromatherapy uses:
- Cough, common cold, bronchitis, laryngitis and other infections of the upper respiratory tract.
- It relaxes and relieves tension from body and soul.
- Research has shown its regenerative action on the skin and so it is ideal against skin irritation (after shaving etc.) and the healing of wounds.
- It creates an atmosphere of serenity and positivity, aiding meditation.
- It fights against depression, stress, spiritual imbalance.
- It is considered as an aphrodisiac when combined with Ylang-Ylang and Patchouli.
Combine with: Essential oils of Neroli, Black Pepper, Incense, Patchouli, Cedar, Myrrh, Rose, Lavender, Citronella, Ylang-Ylang.
